Original Summary

A while ago I wanted to understand what might happen to house prices in specific Dutch postcode areas, so I built a model that runs scenarios per area and put a web app on top of it. It was meant for my own use and it quietly grew into something much bigger, with a data pipeline and a whole interface, and then I stalled. What stopped me was realising I had never asked anyone whether they wanted this. I kept adding features instead, and once it worked I had no idea who it was for. It sat untouched for two months while I avoided the question. This week I went back and took out everything I could not stand behind. Every data source I had no licence for is gone, and what is left runs on open data from CBS, DNB and the ECB, with postcode shapes from PDOK, all credited on a sources page. Accounts and subscription tiers are gone too, so there is no login, no tracking and nothing behind a paywall. One thing I found while doing that is worth passing on: my price levels had been calibrated on a single listing I happened to look at, which meant the growth rates were fine but the amounts were off by about 40 percent, and the model looked perfectly consistent the whole time. It is at loelens.com . I would like to know whether the output tells you anything you did not already know, where it feels wrong or overconfident, and whether you see a use for this that I am missing. The methodology page is blunt about the assumptions, so pulling those apart is welcome. submitted by /u/solomassolomas [link] [comments]
