Original Summary

We have an app called Wandrio, where you collect tiles by visiting them in real life. To make some money, we decided to start selling those tiles to our users. We weren't sure anyone would pay, but we've now sold over 100. in the past weeks. The catch is that once you buy a tile, you will own it forever. You can name it and add a description that all of the other users will see when the click that tile. Also your profile picture will be shown on the tile. Most of the tiles are sold in Finland, where we have the strongest user base (we are still in beta). We've noticed that one single sold tile in an area doesn't do much. Once a couple of tiles close to each other are sold, though, the area takes off and people keep buying more. It seems that there are three aspects that make people buy tiles: Social proof: people see others buying and figure it must be worth it. Territory: your neighbourhood starts filling up with other people's names and faces, and you want your own piece of it. Scarcity: every tile is one of a kind, and once it's sold it's gone for good. So now we're trying to figure out how to start that chain reaction on purpose in new areas without just giving everything away. submitted by /u/timorex88 [link] [comments]
