Original Summary

I've been building flapflop, a social platform focused entirely on video games, for the last couple of months. the biggest problem hasn't really been building the product. Its getting people to discover it. I've tried reaching out to people directly, posting in relevant communities, and a few other approaches. But I realized something else: even if someone does visit, a social platform feels completely different when there's nothing to see. recently, the platform has started getting more content and activity, especially around a few games like Celeste, Undertale, Stardew Valley, Terraria, Mario and Hollow Knight. Its still very early, but having actual posts, communities and conversations on the platform makes it feel much more alive than it did before. Im curious how other people handled this stage. How did you get your first users to actually discover your platform? did you focus on one community or try multiple channels? did you seed the platform with content before trying to grow the user base? what ended up working better than you expected? and what completely failed? I'd especially like to hear from people who have built social platforms, forums, communities, or other products where having existing users/content is important. if you'd like to take a look, the site is flapflop.com. Id also really appreciate any feedback on the site itself, whether its the interface, the overall experience, or how the system works submitted by /u/MenuTop9911 [link] [comments]
