Original Summary
I’m building a fitness app called VOWD and looking for feedback before I go too far. The basic idea: Set a goal → Put money behind it → Prove it → Progress → Repeat When setting a goal, VOWD first asks for your current baseline . Example: Current bench: 205×6 Goal: 205×9 Deadline: 3 weeks It evaluates the goal and gives it difficulty level . If it’s challenging but realistic, you can commit. If it’s clearly unrealistic, VOWD won’t let you stake money on it. Then you choose your stake. $20 on the line Hit it → get your $20 back. Miss it → it goes to a selected foundation/charity. The app is mainly built around progressive overload rather than only huge goals: 205×6 → 205×8 → 215×6 → 215×8 → 225×6 You can also have a larger Milestone running in the background, like Road to 315 , while your smaller goals are the steps that get you there. A big part is Crews . You create a private group with your gym friends and see everyone’s current goals, deadlines, progress and attempts: Alex — 295/315 Bench Tony — 385/405 Squat Peter — 17/20 Pull-ups Everyone has their own goal and their own money . Nobody wins anyone else’s stake. It’s basically social accountability + money on the line. You can also give friends there own challenges and if they accept they can lose money. When you hit your goal, you submit proof through VOWD. The attempt is checked with AI for things like weight and reps , with questionable attempts able to be reviewed by humans. Over time your profile becomes your lifting history: completed goals, PRs, streaks, completion rate, money returned/donated and lift progression. So instead of: “I want to get stronger.” It’s: “I’m at 205×6. I’m hitting 205×9 within 3 weeks. I have $20 behind it, my friends can see it, and I have to prove it.” Then you set the next one. Would you actually use this with your gym friends? What sounds unnecessary, exploitable, or like it wouldn’t work in real life? submitted by /u/No-Atmosphere3496 [link] [comments]
