Original Summary
We recently changed our trial experience. Our 7-day trial costs us around $6 per user because of the AI costs involved. Instead of simply absorbing that cost, we decided to let users choose what they want to pay. $0 | $5 | $12 | $19 Everyone gets the same 7-day trial. The only difference is what they decide it is worth. We also wanted to be completely transparent about it. $5: Almost covers us. Thank you, truly. $12: You just covered your trial and someone else’s. $19: You are keeping a tiny team going. Thank you. And $0: Okay. No problem. We will take the hit. But that is what makes this interesting to me. We are bootstrapped, so we cannot run 50 experiments with someone else’s money. Every experiment has consequences. Rather than pretend we know what customers want, we want to ask them. So I want to run this experiment publicly. As more people go through the trial, I will share: What percentage chooses $0 What percentage actually pays The average amount people choose Whether paid trials convert differently Whether people find this refreshing or manipulative And, most importantly, whether this was a stupid idea If you were signing up for a SaaS you genuinely wanted to try: What would you choose? $0, $5, $12 or $19? And please tell me why. I am genuinely curious. You might actually help us decide how we price our trial. Edit: We have got 2 users who have paid $12 and 1 user who has paid $5. submitted by /u/Iifebug [link] [comments]
