I live in Tokyo and love filming little bits of my day on my phone: cute moments at the zoo, fish drifting under the blue light at the aquarium, the yakiniku I treat myself to after work, a train pulling out of the platform at dusk. The plan was always to cut them into a little Japanese-style mini vlog. Shooting was easy. Sorting was the nightmare. A week later I'd have to dig those few clips out of a camera roll full of screenshots, photos and work stuff, then import them into an editor one by one. I never kept up. At one point I had 2,800 unedited clips sitting there, and the hassle had started making me not want to pick up my phone at all. So I built CocoCut. It's a camera, not an editor. You tap the shutter to grab a few seconds, or hold for up to 10. New clips line up by date on their own, so there's always a finished video waiting, and you export it whenever you want. No timeline. To be clear, it doesn't dig through your old camera roll. It changes how you shoot from now on. I've been using it for 2 months. Every week I end up with a finished video of my week without sitting down to edit anything. On their own each clip is a second or two of nothing much. Strung together, they actually feel like time passing. Everything stays on your phone. No account, nothing uploaded. It's free on iOS and Android. It's still rough in places. On some Android phones it isn't fully stable yet, and I'm still working on fixes. iOS has been solid for me. That's why I'm posting: I want people to try it and tell me where it breaks, or why they wouldn't bother recording a few seconds a day.
