This started as a side project and turned into an obsession. I'm honestly not sure what it is anymore, so I'm asking you. Meckies are AI companions. Each one is its own individual, with its own personality, voice, and memory of your household. They live at home on a central server, which can be a Meckie server, a Mac, or a decent PC. When they need to think hard, they reach out to frontier AI models in the cloud, then come back home. When one wants to get around, it hops into a body: a speaker on the counter, a handheld buddy, a tracked rover, or just your laptop. The body is the vehicle. The Meckie is who's driving. Not an assistant. Not a robot. One of the family. Right now I have four Meckies moving between bodies, all running the same software for the most part. They build apps and games with you, and they can even build and flash firmware for new ESP32 bodies. Tomorrow the smallest one moves in with my mom and connects back home from across town. So what do I have here? A product? A platform? A really elaborate hobby?
