Hey guys, I've spent my fair share of time editing files — posters, photos, you name it. I know the struggle of learning a fairly complex tool like Adobe or Affinity, and how confusing or demanding some workflows can be. Although I got through that phase and became somewhat proficient with those programs, I still often go looking for shortcuts online, since I don't like adding all that bleed, crop marks, checking colors afterwards... it's simple, yet painful. And one of those "shortcuts" is the hundreds of web tools out there offering this and that — making files smaller, optimizing, vectorizing, and much more. But those tools often ask for an email, a sign-in, an account, and sometimes even payment. So you go again — search, search, try a bunch of things along the way, some work, some don't. Or maybe you're one of those people who've never even heard terms like crop marks, PDF, SVG, bleed, and so on, and now you're the one at work sending something to print — the print shop is asking for a specifically prepared file, and you're just sitting there, lost. So here you are — time wasted, lost, struggling, still nowhere — and your file now exists on a handful of servers you'll never see again, and your computer might have picked up a new "friend" living in it, all while you're wondering if you should've just paid the $5 the first site asked for. Been there, done that. Powered by that struggle, I, supported by passion Claude AI and ChatGPT, set out to build something to help me and my friends with these quick day-to-day tasks that seem simple but usually turn into a pain in the... It's a website called FileSherpa with around 50 file utility tools (more coming — it's actively in production): PDF editing, cropping, print prep, downsizing, bulk edit, and so on (see the full list on the site for yourself). Among other things, it offers a fully guided, AI-powered way to edit your files — just type what you need and drop in the file — or you can just use each tool on its own. There is also a small window for explanation of common file language and you can also click on those underlined words and it tells you the meaning All of it is completely free. NO accounts, NO sign-ups, NO mailing list or email required, NO uploads anywhere — everything is processed in your browser. I can't see what you do or upload. The only thing I collect is analytics — GA4 and PostHog — and you can decline it through the cookie banner. I just want to know the numbers. Feel free to test, please be kind, it is mainly a personal project, nothing meant to impress and serve millions. Ai may have hiccups, if it does it should reroute you to tools for browsing.
