Original Summary
I genuinely don’t know what my next move should be, so I’d like to hear from people who’ve been through this. I lived in England for several years. I studied and worked there, and eventually built a life around a quieter environment, nature, community and people I felt comfortable around. Then something changed, and I had to leave. In the meantime I was building a project and on my proof of concept stage. Last year, I came back to Hong Kong (where I born and raised). I felt like I had gone backwards and feeling like a tourist in this city. I was living with my family again, working a 9–6 job, and trying to figure out how to move forward. In the past, I did go to events, Facebook clubs, bumble BFF etc. to meet people. But the catch is very much draining, especially for an introvert, step out of the comfort zone to talk to someone, screening for the vibes, checking in with strangers that have nothing in common. In the meantime, matching others via friend making apps, it’s like being judged and judging others based on their profile, but never really knowing them in real life. Then, finally someone responded, and think twice on what to text…just an adult trying to find friends, aren’t we all? Honestly, using dating app is even better to just meet people. Then I reflected on my journey, if I could even just meet my neighbours and have a small talk with them that would be great. But my neighbourhoods in south west England are so quiet, honestly. The founded idea came from my experienced while living in England: being an immigrant, female every time you moved, the whole social network has to rebuild. While I moved 10 times in 7 years (avg people is 3-5 time in their life). Let alone maintain any friendships. And honestly, I’m at the point don’t know how to find my target audience even a MVP on TestFlight and I feel like I am just solving my own problem and arranged a ‘random’ solution. In Hong Kong, I focus on the non-Chinese immigrant community. Because they seem to be more understanding/aware of the identities/ cultures shift, and easy to recognise than whom returned. But it hards to find the communities. And it’s like going back to ground zero - attending events, talk to random people, tell them what do I do for living, exchange contacts and stay silence…perhaps I’m not good at pitching it, too.. If you were me at this stage what would you do? If anyone here has been in this weird middle stage before, I'd really appreciate hearing how you approached it. submitted by /u/No-Sheepherder8693 [link] [comments]
