Hey everyone — I’m Michael. I built Nuke Nomad after working nuclear outages and realizing how hard it is to figure out the first steps from the outside. The project started as a worker platform, but the part I wanted to share here is the New to Nuclear course. It walks through what outage contracting is, the different roles and hiring steps, how to compare the whole pay package (hourly rate, overtime, per diem, bonuses and travel), and where to start conversations with recruiters. I got in without a college degree, but I’m careful not to promise a salary or schedule. My own result was roughly five months working and seven months off, and it varies by role, assignment and experience. I built this for someone who is curious but doesn’t want to quit their current job just to find out whether nuclear work fits.
