Hey r/SideProject ! Atelier ASCII turns images, videos or your webcam into ASCII art, right in the browser: https://atelier.eltand.com It started as a simple converter and kind of got out of hand. A few things I haven't seen in other converters: - Shape matching. Instead of only asking "how dark is this cell?", it compares each cell with the outline of every glyph, so diagonals become / and bottom edges become _. - Text portraits. Draw an image with your own words, like a name or a quote. - Looping animations from any still image (decode, rain, scan, wave, glitch…), exported as GIF, video or a tiny HTML player. The GIF encoder is written from scratch. - Exports sized for where they're going: GitHub README, Discord (checks the 2,000-character limit), Slack, 24-bit ANSI color for terminals, SVG, PNG. - Hand editing. Paint, erase or type directly on the result. Everything runs client-side: no uploads, no account, no tracking of your images.
