ok so last week I ask a question to u guys about marketing. And u guys answer back. 14k views, 50+ comments, and a few people offering stuff on my chat. here is basically what I learned from it: "free" is not an offer, apparently. ( u/nicholasthemarketer , u/Turbulent-Crazy-6979 ) turns out "it's free!!" is a price, not a reason to care. if you can't say what it does and who it's for in one sentence, posting it in 12 subreddits just confuses 12x more people. go talk to real humans. ( u/Efficient-Accident71 , u/HireSmartAdvisor ) start with people you already know, ask "who do you know who deals with X?", then steal their exact words for your landing page. don't make people sign up before they see it work. ( u/Public-Carpenter-843 ) nobody is creating an account just to find out what your thing does. they'll go find the other app that doesn't ask. pick 1-2 channels, not all of them. ( u/cornelmanu , u/AgentNT ) posting the same launch on reddit, X and everywhere else = spreading thin to people who don't even have the problem. guilty as charged. more traffic won't save a confusing page. ads and SEO multiply what you've got, and zero times anything is still zero (math!). u/creative_shizzle 's test is great: show someone your page and ask what they think it does. and my biggest mistake, pointed out by basically everyone: I wrote a whole post asking for marketing help and never said what the product is. peak founder behavior. so, hi: it's Relnotely, a changelog for SaaS products. you get a public changelog page on your own domain plus a little "what's new" badge for your site, so users actually notice what you shipped. $19/mo flat. no watermark, no entry caps, no sneaky upsell. (re: "literally free" from my first post: signing up and writing is free, publishing starts a 7-day trial. fine print, but I'd rather say it.) because basically iI decided to close the free thing and focus more, on everyone can try it first, but then pay for hosting it, etc. but you still can sign up for free to try it, so.. now the fun part. there's a free changelog grader on the site, no account needed. so: drop your public changelog URL and It will grade it and tell you the one thing I'd fix first. no changelog? tell me what you ship and I'll tell you if you even need one (some products honestly don't). and if you're stuck on another changelog tool with their logo on your page, then consider relnotely. relnotely.com thanks for roasting me r/SaaS , hehe.   submitted by   /u/Inevitable_Craft_575 [link]   [comments]
