In my client work, I regularly receive questions that sound simple: “Can we disable this user?” “Can we delete this SharePoint list?” “Can we switch off this Power Automate flow?” Performing the action might take only a few minutes. The difficult part is determining what else could be affected. A departing employee might own Power Apps, flows, Teams, SharePoint sites or connections that other people still depend on. A SharePoint list that appears unused might still supply data to an application, trigger an automation or support a report. A Power Automate flow might look unfamiliar or inactive while still running an important business process in the background. Investigating this manually can require gathering inventories from several Microsoft services and then trying to connect ownership, permissions and dependencies. I started building an internal system to make these assessments easier. That system has now become a product called VisibleState. VisibleState creates a read-only operational view of a Microsoft 365 tenant. It uses technical metadata to help authorised IT teams understand: - What exists in the tenant - Who owns each object - How supported objects are connected - What might be affected by a change - What has changed since an earlier assessment It does not disable users, delete objects or modify the tenant. It also does not read documents, email bodies or Teams conversations. The core application is working, and I am currently improving the onboarding, reports and overall user experience. I would appreciate honest feedback from anyone who works with Microsoft 365: Is dependency and impact discovery a problem you experience? How do you currently check what might break before making a change? What evidence would you need before trusting a system like this?
