Original Summary
I got nostalgic for late-'90s/'00 low-poly graphics, combining with my desire to have offline/no subs software as much as possible, so I decided to try and build this music player for my music on files and to have something always floating on the top-right corner of my screen. The classic deck layout, a ten-band EQ and a playlist as windows that dock together, and behind the album cover a 3D world that moves to the music. Five worlds so far: a synthwave grid, a moonlit forest with real reflections, dunes with a chrome skull, a rainy neon city, and a deep sea. The renderer is native in Metal, no engine. Everything except one public-domain skull mesh is generated on the Mac when the app launches, so the whole thing is about 12 MB. No account, no analytics, no network access at all. Stack: Swift, AppKit for the windows, SwiftUI for the pixel UI, Metal for the 3D, AVFoundation for playback. As for LLMs, I have utilized Claude (Fable) for procedural generation of the worlds. It's one-time purchase on the Mac App Store, no subscription: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6810734377 Site with more info: https://ghost-deck.app Happy to answer anything about the app itself. What would you want in a next world (new worlds will be in future updates)? submitted by /u/Lazy-Manufacturer-62 [link] [comments]
