I am a second-year MBA student with a full-time job. During a three-hour class I lose the thread. Sometimes because I was slow in note-taking. Sometimes because I drift. Either way, I was missing things in the room that I then had to make up outside the room. I tried the AI notetakers. They are good, but they help after the fact. My problem was the three hours themselves. When you do the math on tuition, one class session costs hundreds of dollars! I did not want a recap of a class I half attended. I wanted to be fully there. What I wanted was simple to say and hard to build. My my prep document for the class, notes, and the live conversation in the room, all in one place, working together, so I can ask AI to use all those. I can get it answered in the moment and go back to listening. Less catching up, more paying attention. That is the app named Praesto I built. It transcribes on an Apple device. I take notes the way I always did, by hand with the Pencil or typed, and each note gets pinned to the moment in the transcript it came from. My slides and readings sit in the same session. When something is unclear I ask, it answers from what was just said plus my notes and prep material. Work meetings go in the same knowledge base, which turned out to matter more than I expected. What worked. My EMBA classmates now use it in class, mostly for the live transcript, chat, and the notes. That surprised me. I thought the AI parts would be the draw. The feature everyone find useful about is Topic Flow Map. It is posted here as a video, but it generates a real-time topic flow while transcribing. What did not work. Some deep features. I built a group mode where a learning team shares one live transcript while everyone keeps their own private notes. Almost nobody uses it. People come for their own notes, and asking them to coordinate with five others at the start of class is one step too many. Lesson learned: focus on simple problems that people draw into.
