I kept starting system design and ML courses and never finishing them. What I actually stuck with was answering one hard question on the train. So I built the app around that. What it is BetterSWE gives you one question at a time about how real systems are built: retrieval, agents, evals, serving and scaling, plus the classic system design and algorithms material. You pick an answer, it tells you why you were right or wrong, and a short slide deck with diagrams covers the concept behind it. The slides ship with the app, so it works offline. Anything you get wrong goes into an error set and keeps coming back until you get it right. There is a daily challenge (five questions, the same five for everyone, a new set every day), LeetCode-style problem sets where the four questions are the approach, whether an alternative would also work, the runtime and the space, and a bit of pixel-art collecting to make the streak feel like something.
