Original Summary

Some of you might remember my girls' night idea. You pretty much talked me out of it, which was the point. Got a new one and I'd rather get torn apart here than after building it. Been working on this for a few weeks and want people to tear it apart before we build more. Whatnot proved people will buy through live auctions. But it only works if the seller sits on camera for hours and performs. Most independent makers and vintage sellers I've looked at won't do that. So the idea is the opposite. The seller sends their normal photos, the item details, and if they want, a 30 second voice note about the piece. We turn that into a short presentation for each item and run the auction around it. No host, no chat spam. Buyers see the piece and the story, then bid live or set a max and leave. A few auctions run at the same time so buyers can move between them. Sellers apply and get reviewed, so no dropshipping or print on demand. The sale goes through the seller's own Stripe, and we take 5% when something sells. No monthly fee. Two things I'm stuck on: Cold start. At first each seller brings their own audience. The bet is that someone who came for seller A ends up bidding in seller B's room. If that doesn't happen, it's just auction software. Handmade prices. If a $300 vase gets 3 bidders, it closes near the opening bid. Reserve prices help, but I don't know if makers trust auctions at all. If you sell physical products, would you try this or is auction format a hard no? submitted by /u/Old_Classroom_8933 [link] [comments]
