Here is likely a truly unpopular, but correct opinion. Im writing this in response to the DAILY deluge of posts about how AI tools can now build your app immediately, killing off SaaS, which is soooo wrong that its absurd. If the only thing that made your app a success was that noone else could be bothered to build it, then it was crap anyway. The types of SaaS that all along could have been built if only one had the technical ability are likely shite. A successful product is waaaay more than just the technical build - its the conceptual system, the data model, the meaning of the tool, the problem it is solving. I'd estimate at least half of SaaS apps built were just some technically minded team with no real product understanding. Its so funny watching (mainly) developers spin their heads wondering what's happening. Devs: listen clearly. This is the truth of the matter - you were never actually fundamental to the design of useful systems, you were the builders/enablers and lets be honest the gatekeepers. All the bizarre SaaS and product dev orthodoxy we saw emerge over the last 20 years came precisely because the only people that could build and ship products were technical developers - hence all the 'find a problem/get users to pay first/ideas are worthless/execution is everything' nonsense. It was never an optimal scenario to have devs design and build products. You need domain experts and product owners to build products. Its like building a house. We are exiting the era of bricklayers and scaffolders and Q surveyors designing the house. The best houses were always designed by an architect. The best apps will continue to have product designers who build useful products that the market wants.
