I make FlexiChess, a browser-based alternative to ChessBase. Solo, bootstrapped, Australia, building since May. ChessBase is the incumbent, a Windows program that's been the standard for serious players for decades, sold as a one-off purchase with a new version every year or two that you buy again. Mine runs in the browser over a database of 10.4 million tournament games. The database and the search are free with no account, and Pro is $9 a month for more storage and more AI coaching. That's the whole model. Where it's at, four months in: just under two hundred accounts with any activity. About sixty of those came back on a second day, sixteen on four or more days, four on seven or more, and two use it most days. Roughly fifty people in a normal week, nearly a hundred in launch
