Original Summary
Hi all, I'm the solo dev behind Audia. I was an Audible subscriber for about four years and listened to well over 200 books. But every time I wanted a top title, it was an extra payment on top of the subscription. I got tired of it. I already had a library of my own books and documents, so I wanted an app to listen to those instead. That's how Audia started. What it does: - Reads EPUB, PDF, Word, ODT, MOBI, FB2, RTF and plain text aloud - Works fully offline once your books are in the app: airplane mode, trains, car trips with bad coverage. The voices run on the phone, so no internet is needed to listen (only fetching a web article or importing books from the Audia Library needs a connection) - Paste a web link and it reads just the article - 10 different neural voices to select from - The app interface is translated into 31 languages - Reads in 31 languages, with the same 10 voices (extra polish for Spanish, English, French, German and Italian, and I'm improving the rest) - Add books from your computer over Wi-Fi, CarPlay support, audio export - Built-in library of public-domain classics, plus some original books The hardest part technically was words getting swallowed when reading faster than 1x: the trimmed silence at the end of each generated chunk was eating the last syllable. I ended up tuning tail margins and silence/breath detection per chunk. Happy to go into detail if anyone is curious. Pricing: free to use. The natural voices have a daily limit (10 min), after that it keeps reading with the system voice. A one-time purchase of $8.99 (price varies by country) unlocks unlimited listening, CarPlay, search, bookmarks and audio export. No subscription. After the Audible experience I'm pretty burned out on subscriptions for everything... so I'm going to resist going that way as long as I can. I can't promise what the future looks like, but if you pay today, it's yours: you keep the full app you paid for, no matter what I do later. I'd love feedback on how the voices sound in your language, and whether the daily limit feels fair.
