Original Summary
In my opinion, the biggest mistake people here make is believing success comes from “building the perfect product.” That’s not specific enough. You need to build the right product for the right problem and have a way to reach the people who need it. When you ask yourself, “What product could I build and try to sell?” you’re considering almost anything you’re capable of building. That often leads you toward whatever sounds most fun or interesting to work on, rather than something people will actually pay for. A better question is: “What problem are people with a budget actively looking to solve, and how can I reach them?” Changing the question changes what you’re willing to build. There are three common traps: Solving a problem that doesn’t really exist. The product might be clever, but nobody actually needs it. Solving a real problem people aren’t willing to pay to fix. Another generic note-taking app, for example, when your target audience is happy with free alternatives. Solving a problem people would pay to fix, but having no reliable way to reach them. There’s demand, but you don’t have a practical way to get your product in front of those buyers. Your target market needs to meet all three conditions: a problem they’re actively looking to solve, a willingness and ability to pay, and a reliable marketing channel through which you can reach them. Once you filter your ideas through those criteria, you’re no longer choosing from everything you could build. You’re choosing from ideas with a realistic path to success. These ideas are obviously harder to find. But spending more time finding one beats spending months building, maintaining, and marketing a series of products that never met those criteria in the first place. submitted by /u/AnUninterestingEvent [link] [comments]
