Original Summary

I was under the Eiffel Tower a while back and realised something kinda weird. Everything around you, the signs, tickets, the name itself, basically tells you Gustave Eiffel built the tower. He didn't actually design it. Two of his engineers did. Maurice Koechlin sketched the original idea. Eiffel apparently wasn't very interested in it at first. He came around later, after his head of architecture added the arches at the base and the glass pavilion. Then Eiffel bought the patent rights from all three of them and entered it into the competition under his own name. It beat 107 other proposals. One of those proposals was apparently a giant guillotine. And none of this is really something you learn while standing there. There are signs everywhere, but they mostly tell you what the place is, not the stuff I actually wanted to know. So I started collecting these stories, one landmark at a time, and eventually it turned into a side project. It's called Wanderlight. It's an audio guide for Paris, Rome and Versailles. Two things I want to be upfront about: It doesn't automatically start playing when you walk somewhere. It shows you what's nearby (within roughly 1km) and you decide what you want to listen to. And the narration is AI/synthesised, not a human narrator. The research is the part that took months. Where the historical evidence is uncertain or contradictory, I tried to have the guide say that rather than just make the story sound nicer. It's free right now. Honestly I'd rather get feedback, so if you try it, tell me where it gets boring, where something feels wrong, or what you wanted to know but didn't find. Would genuinely appreciate it.
