Original Summary

Four months ago I built the first version of this in three days while visiting my granddaughter Ellie, working while she napped. I named it after her because she was learning to read. This week version 1.6 shipped, and it's finally the thing I set out to make. What it is: a Mac teleprompter that sits in the notch, right under the camera, so you look at the person instead of the script. And it understands what you say: it follows your voice by the words, not the sound. It transcribes on-device and matches the words against your script, so it knows which word you're on, and it remembers which points you've covered. Pause and it waits. Ad-lib a story and it holds your place. Skip a paragraph and it catches up. macOS keeps the window out of screen capture, so Zoom never sees it. Side-project lessons so far, for anyone building a Mac app: Notarized direct download plus Sparkle beat the App Store for me: sandboxing would have killed the one-shortcut 'send text from any app' feature. The web checkout converts at 11 to 16%. The in-app checkout converts at 40 to 52%. Same $29. So every install now gets 10 days of the paid tier and the buying happens in the app. Half of what I thought were abandoned carts were crawlers. Filter bots before you believe a funnel. Users email. Two of the fixes in 1.6.2 came from a CMO in retail and a filmmaker who wrote in. Answer every email. Free download, Pro is $29 once. Apple Silicon, macOS 14+. Happy to answer anything about the build or the business. https://tellieapp.com/?via=gw-sideproject submitted by /u/Bubbly-Celebration63 [link] [comments]
