Original Summary
My dark fantasy RPG SIM project, Where Is My Home? , is slowly but surely taking shape. When I created the game design document a few years ago which was already hundreds of pages long at the time and started developing it, I had no idea how massive the workload would actually be or how many obstacles I would encounter along the way. Surprisingly, the main hurdle wasn't writing the code itself, since I work as a programmer; rather, it was figuring out industry best practices how talent/spell systems or loot/inventory architecture actually function under the hood, and how to design a secure, scalable, and sustainable framework while ensuring the heavy animations and features don't trigger FPS drops and remain well-optimized in the browser. I've had many tough moments. The combat engine, along with the Diablo -style loot drop and gem/enchantment mechanics, took months to build and pushed me to pause the project for a while. It's surreal looking back and realizing the very first commit hit the repository back in 2019. (Please bear with me regarding the emerging bugs, placeholder graphics, and visible localization keys for now fine-tuning and polishing are still very much in progress, and of course, it'll have its own custom soundtrack in time! ) If you'd like to follow the project's development, join the Discord server: https://discord.gg/8yNhvTWZb As a small thank you, I’d love to reward early members on the server with an exclusive limited-edition cosmetic item and a few extra goodies once v1.0 officially launches! I didn't use AI for actual coding I mainly used it to break down complex math from dev articles and to bounce architectural ideas off it. I started this project not only to build my own world, but also to grow professionally. At work, deadlines often force a "quick and dirty" approach where there's never time to do things properly. I wanted a space where I could take my time and actually craft something solid and well-architected. submitted by /u/Sea_Intention9648 [link] [comments]
