Original Summary

I’m exploring a website idea to support the local community where I’ve lived for 11 years, and I’d appreciate some early feedback. The concept is a community directory showcasing restaurants and other local businesses, with menus, photos, product descriptions, prices, opening hours, phone numbers, email addresses and locations. Each business would have its own page and private upload folder. Initially, owners could update a limited number of photos and text files through FTP using standard filenames. Shared PHP templates would automatically display their information. I’m also considering a simple mobile-friendly upload form to make updates easier. Later, I may add a discussion board for business questions, recommendations and feedback, using AI-assisted moderation to keep conversations relevant and respectful and exclude political debates. I’m funding this myself and building it in my own time. Hosting is already paid for on a semi-dedicated server. I previously built Prismovia using PHP, MySQL and the OpenAI API, so I have the technical skills and some existing code I could adapt. I’m considering designing the system so others could reuse it to create business directories for their own communities. This is early exploration, with no launch or traction to report yet. I’d welcome feedback on: Would this be useful alongside Google Maps and local Facebook groups? What would encourage businesses to participate and keep their information updated? Which features should the first version include? Does making the system reusable for other communities make sense? My aim is to build something useful for my community. Honest feedback from founders, business owners and potential users would be appreciated. submitted by /u/ParticularAd1366 [link] [comments]
