Original Summary
Solo dev. Fitness app — training, nutrition, activity, mind and wellness, and a goal section that plans your week backward from whatever you're working toward. That last part is the clip. I've never charged for it. I'm about to, and I keep going in circles on where the line goes. Where I've landed, and I'm not confident about it: free keeps everything that records what you did — logging workouts from the exercise library, meals and macros, water, sleep, mood, the health data your phone already has. Paid gets everything that decides what you do next — generated training plans, the meal planner, the thing that looks at which muscle groups you haven't trained lately and suggests one, and the goal planner in the clip. One tier, $4.99 a month, no trial, on the theory that a free tier which stays genuinely useful does the same job a trial does without a countdown attached. The part I can't settle is that hardly anyone uses it yet. So either I put a wall up before I know what people actually value and guess wrong, or I stay free and never find out, because a free app generates nothing to fund reaching anyone. Everyone says "wait until you have users." Nobody says how you get users for a free app with no budget, which is the actual problem. If you've been here — did you charge early and learn from it, or stay free and grow first? And if you charged, was there anything you'd move to the other side of the line now? submitted by /u/swithAI [link] [comments]
