Original Summary

I'm a 3rd year CS student, and a few months ago I set out to build something that actually solves a real problem instead of another to do-list app. The idea: parents often need calm, practical guidance the moment their kid is hitting or having a meltdown — not a Google search, not a parenting article, just something built for that exact moment. So I built ParentPilot. The core feature is an "SOS" flow — a guided, step-by-step calm intervention with a clear progress indicator (step 3 of 5, for example) that walks a parent through de-escalating in the moment, offering safer alternative actions and example phrases to say. It also lets parents log incidents over time (what triggered it, where it happened, how they responded, how the child reacted) and uses AI to generate personalized, pattern-based advice from that history, so they can start spotting triggers instead of just reacting every time. A few things I learned building this solo: - Designing UX for someone in a stressed, high-emotion moment is very different from designing a normal app flow — every extra tap or confusing button matters way more - Getting AI to give genuinely useful advice (not generic platitudes) took a lot of iteration on how I fed it context - Shipping something real taught me more in a few weeks than most of my coursework has I've since started taking on freelance projects building similar AI-powered apps and chatbots for other people/businesses, if anyone here needs something like this built — happy to chat in the comments or DMs. submitted by /u/omarahassan05 [link] [comments]
