India's scheme provides Rs 2 lakh for a death and Rs 50,000 for grievous injuries in eligible cases where the offending vehicle cannot be identified. Claims need approval from the authorities. A government reply in Parliament reports Rs 84.14 crore paid across 4,543 claims in FY 2024-25. The following financial year's reported total was Rs 125.98 crore across 7,348 claims through 28 February 2026. Those figures count payouts; they do not tell us how many people know about the scheme.
