Original Summary
I'm building DOFOTT, a small tool that adds Google Maps travel-time blocks to Google Calendar around any meeting with an address. We're about to leave free beta and I want a second opinion on the pricing before it ships. The model: Free up to 12 "travel meetings" a month (meetings that actually produced a travel block) Go past 12 in a month → that month costs $5, unlimited for the rest of the month Or $36/year, unlimited from day one No monthly subscription. The reasoning: a fixed $5/mo plan was always dominated by pay-when-you-use-it (same ceiling, and you skip months you don't need it), and heavy users do the 12 × $5 > $36 math themselves and move to annual. Two things I'm unsure about: Card is collected at signup even on the free tier, because charges only happen at month end via metered billing. Does asking for a card upfront on a "free up to 12" plan kill signups more than the free tier helps? The threshold counts every instance of a recurring event. Someone commuting to an office 3 days a week hits 12 by mid-month. Is that a reasonable "you're a real user, pay $5" line, or does it feel like a trap? Curious how people here have handled threshold-triggered pricing vs. a plain subscription.
