I run a few content sites. Getting backlinks is the hardest part of that, and the free way to do it is trading links with other site owners, which in practice means forum threads and cold emails and a lot of wasted time. Three things went wrong every time. There was no way to find people who were actually open to swapping. Most of what did come back had nothing to do with my niche. And more than once I agreed a swap, wrote the content, published my link, and then found out the person I'd been talking to didn't have access to the site they were offering. No admin login, no way to add anything. My link was live, theirs never appeared. So I built AnyBacklink. Free, nothing sold. The verification is the part I care most about. You add your site, then upload a text file to your root to prove it's yours, same idea as Search Console. Until that passes, your listing is invisible to everyone and you can't search or see a single other site. No browsing, no window shopping. That cuts both ways on purpose. You only appear to people who have proved they own something, and everyone you find has proved the same, so the person you're talking to can actually publish the link. That one rule kills the problem that wasted most of my time. The rest of it: everyone on there wants to exchange, so you're never cold-pitching. You tag your site with three keywords and see verified sites sharing them. Proposals state both halves of the deal up front, including placement and whether it's dofollow. When you publish, the platform fetches the page and checks the link is genuinely there before it counts. If one side is writing a guest post, you agree a brief first, topic, target page, anchor text, length, then the draft comes through for review before it goes live, with a chat on every swap so it isn't done over email. It's a private network. Everything sits in a members area behind a login and is hidden from crawlers, so your site never ends up in a public directory.
