I wanted to close my Mac while a coding agent was still working, but let it sleep once the job finished. So I built Agent Awake with help from AI coding tools. It's a small, free Mac utility with one job: keep the laptop awake while supported local AI tasks run, then allow sleep when they finish. It detects local Codex, Claude Code and Claude Cowork activity. When protection is active, the lid can stay closed. When the last supported task ends, the sleep protection releases. There is a menu-bar pause button, a low-battery cutoff at 5% while unplugged, and a release when macOS reports critical heat. An idle app being open doesn't count as an active task. This is an early release. Closed-lid behavior has been tested on my Apple silicon Mac, including on battery. Intel hardware and a clean installation on a second Mac haven't been tested yet. It needs administrator permission for closed-lid support and isn't Apple-notarized yet. The laptop still needs ventilation while working. It doesn't restart failed tasks or guarantee an internet connection. It's focused on sleep control.
