Original Summary
I think people misunderstood what ‘build something people want‘ actually means. I spent 6 months doing probably what a lot of technical founders do, like building, improving, changing, booking demos, adding features, and then build again. Well, and whenever growth was slower than I wanted, my instinct was basically: ‘maybe the product needs another improvement’ (stop right there, this is a trap) So, I finally started looking into a different problem. Why are there so many genuinely decent SaaS products being built, but such a small percentage are actually getting consistent customers? turns out no one really does distribution. And it’s not because of lack of knowledge, but actually lack of time. That sent me pretty deep into GTM/distribution for the last month. And the biggest thing I noticed is that distribution shouldn’t really start after the product is finished. It should start before, or at least at the same time. I also started looking less at ‘How do I reach more people?’ and more at where are the people already expressing the problem I’m solving? Then I started looking at current GTM tools, but it’s either AI slop, mass UGC that everybody’s sick of, or cold emails, bot spam. This is terrible both for the users you’re trying to target and for you as the company. And, no, Reddit is not enough. ”we can automate 1000 emails or generate 50 posts“ doesn’t get you there either. The bottleneck is not quantity. It’s intent and quality. this changed my mind a lot, so I took my own side Projects and researched what actually lands. I used that as the principle foundation for distribution, and automated that. This got me customers than the other approaches, it works simply bc of intent. You can literally apply this to any platform. One month after this strategy, like seriously focusing only on this, has honestly moved things to $10k/m, and way further than several months of demos or content filming. And I hate filming content because I dont have time to edit the videos. Curious if anyone else here had the same realization after building their first SaaS. If youre currently trying to solve the same distribution problem, just reach out to me and I’m happy to share notes, approach and help you grow. Especially if you’re a busy founder too, and want GTM on auto while you’re building. submitted by /u/Difficult_Stress_127 [link] [comments]
