Original Summary
Solo dev here. I kept running into the same annoying problem: stuff I could see on my screen but couldn't actually search or select — course viewers, ebook readers, slide decks, scanned docs locked inside some app. You can read it, but you can't Ctrl-F it. So I built CapDrop (Windows). The idea is dead simple: you set a capture interval, hit start, and walk away. It screenshots each page, advances, runs OCR locally, and hands you back one searchable PDF at the end. No stitching 40 screenshots together by hand, no uploading anything. The two things I cared about most: - 100% local. The OCR runs on your machine, nothing gets uploaded to a cloud. That mattered to me for anything remotely sensitive. - One-time price, not a subscription. $19 once. There's a 7-day trial, and the free tier still makes an image-only PDF if you just want that. Tech: Electron shell + a local OCR sidecar for the text layer. The trickiest part by far was reliable offline OCR quality — everyone underestimates how fiddly that is. It's live on the Microsoft Store and at https://capdrop.app if you want to poke at it. Honest feedback welcome — especially on the capture flow and whether the "set an interval and walk away" model actually clicks for people, or if it feels weird. Happy to answer anything. submitted by /u/Rude-Pianist9771 [link] [comments]
