Original Summary

I was looking for a car to buy, and I had the idea to create an app that would be like Strava for cars. So I started building it while I waited. The car was delivered in August, and I've been testing the app ever since. I've racked up a lot of kilometers and used up a lot of gas and now the app is in TestFlight and I'm getting it ready to launch. Tarmac detects when you start driving on its own — no start button — and when you park you get the route on a map, distance, duration and average speed. Add friends and there's a weekly league ranked by km, hours, drives or average speed. Built with SwiftUI + Supabase, solo. The hard part was never the UI, it was the background detection: Core Location and Core Motion will tell you you're driving when you're sat on a train, and will miss a ten-minute trip to the supermarket entirely. I built that piece in isolation first, before any of the real screens, because if it doesn't work there's no product.
