I have been in the software industry for more than 15 years. I've worked with multiple tech stacks, caught the transition from basic IDEs, to Eclipse to IntelliJ and now, to coding assistants. I always tried to stay ahead of the curve, adapt and learn. I also always liked to build software, so even before the AI Boom, I created small tools and utilities outside of my main job and even contributed to open-source projects. I am quite proud that one of my open project, even though it is not a hit or massively used, allowed me to visit places and present it at conferences. Now, AI has allowed me to contribute more by bridging the gap in knowledge that I have, to iterate faster and to simply make things look better. I am a back-end engineer, so my front-end knowledge is limited and maybe my aesthetics eye not that developed. But AI had allowed me to bring to life some of the idea which I had for a long time or finish projects started long time ago. But when ever I share these projects, I get massive hate for using AI int he coding process. And this is despite the fact that I am releasing these programs for free and open sourcing them. And I always admit that I used coding assistants in the development process for the projects I released. But there always seems to be one or two anti-AI evangelists that the only critique is that "AI was used", without differentiating between a "ChatGPT wrapper made in a weekend" and something more serios that had been assisted by AI. And without even trying the application or looking over the code. I know my limits and I know my knowledge gaps. But I am one person, with a job and a family, that uses the tools available to share something, completely free. But it feels that the cheaper your product is, the worse people treat you. Is it just me? Am I the problem and expecting too much to ask for a bit of decency and honest feedback?
