Hi everyone, I built Dubara, an iPhone app based on a simple idea: one of the best ways to learn a language is to actively translate into it yourself. You choose the language you know, the language you’re learning, and your CEFR level. Dubara then gives you a sentence to translate in your own words—without multiple-choice answers or word tiles. After you submit your translation, you receive: A score out of 100 An explanation of what you got right or wrong A corrected, more natural translation Practical grammar and vocabulary tips If you get stuck, you can tap any word for a hint and save useful words to your flashcards. The app also includes real news rewritten for A2, B1, and C1 levels, translation exercises based on those articles, AI tutor roleplays, spaced- repetition flashcards, word games, streaks, and progress tracking. You can choose any two of 15 supported languages and practise at levels from A1 to C2. There’s a free daily plan, with an optional Pro subscription for unlimited practice. I’m the developer, so this is a self-promotion post—but I’d genuinely appreciate honest feedback, especially about the translation-based learning approach.
