So my vacuum broke a few weeks ago and I went to look into getting it fixed, only to realize the warranty had actually expired like 3 weeks before that. I never once checked on it after I bought it. Just paid, put the receipt somewhere, and forgot about the whole thing until it broke. That's $650 I basically threw away because I didn't have any system for keeping track of that stuff. Turns out I'm not the only one who does this. Looked into it after and apparently something like 1 in 10 people who even buy extended warranties ever actually use them. Most people just don't have a way of remembering when things run out. I've started building something for this, just called it Kept for now. Basically you take a photo of a receipt, it figures out what you bought and when the warranty runs out, and it reminds you before it's too late. That's really it, nothing fancier than that. I want to keep it free. Not doing the whole free trial then charge thing either, just actually free. This is something that annoyed me personally and I'd rather just fix it than turn it into one more subscription people forget they're paying for. I've got a good chunk of it built already but I honestly don't know if this is something other people actually deal with or if I'm just weird about warranties.
