we launched ttyl audio journal about 18 months ago. it was a simple idea: record an audio message and send it to the future. we've heard from users that they're using it for all sorts of things: personal reflections, reliving moments with friends, or sharing memories with loved ones. the project just crossed 1,000 total recordings . ... and we earned our first $12 in revenue . we supported the project for well over a year before adding a revenue model. we need to support the platform for a long time, as many have sent recordings several years into the future, and so it was important that we find a model that works for us and for users. we landed on the concept of stamps: every recording requires a stamps. we offer a few free stamps when you sign up, and you can refill at any time. in the era of AI this and that, it's been fun to operate an explicitly minimal project that uses no AI. we're tapping into some nostalgia that folks have from a time with less connection. one lesson I'd share is that you don't have to have your foot on the gas pedal at all times. we run a product studio where we incubate many new projects every year. we sunset many of them. some go on to reach a steady state, where they naturally grow over time. ttyl is one of those. we periodically revisit the project to make some improvements, but we don't feel any need to stress about growing this in to some massive thing. do what feels good y'all!   submitted by   /u/offtrailstudio [link]   [comments]
