Original Summary
I've been looking at pricing for usage-based SaaS/AI products and hadn't realized how aggressive some of the volume curves are. A few examples I came across: one email verification product goes from ~$0.0038/unit on the smallest pack to ~$0.0003 at the largest an AI video tool goes from $0.70 to $0.36 per credit a quiz/engagement tool goes from $0.010 to $0.0031 per credit another AI generation tool drops from $0.010 to about $0.0066 per credit So in some cases you're looking at 30-70%+ lower unit costs just for committing to a much larger pack. I'm curious how people actually behave when buying these. If 10k units cost $100 but 100k cost $500, do you: buy roughly what you know you'll use take the large pack because the unit price is too good to ignore only go large when you have a specific project that needs it And what happens in practice afterward? Do you normally consume the whole pack, or end up sitting on a meaningful unused balance? Also curious about the opposite case: if you run out halfway through a project, do you buy another smaller pack at the worse unit price, wait until you can justify the larger one, or switch products? Thinking specifically about credits, API calls, generations, scraping, verification, transcription, etc. rather than normal seat-based subscriptions. submitted by /u/darterweb [link] [comments]
