Original Summary
A few months ago I decided I want to start cleaning my internet history, especially in this LLM era. I have had my Reddit account for years, accumulating thousands of comments, so I searched a way to do that. Reddit API changes killed most of the tools available, the online reliable one left was Redact, however I didn't like it because: - it was expensive (it costs $100 billed annually). I planned to use it only one time so it wouldn't work for me. - I didn't want to remove valuable contributions made along the years. I could uncheck specific comments, but imagine going through a list of thousands of comments. It'd be boring af. - I also don't want to have the Redact promo suffix on all my comments (which may result in me being banned from subreddits for spamming) I decided to see if I can build something that would work for myself and who knows, others aswell. So, what I bring to the table? 1) The core feature itself. You can log in with your Reddit account and upload your comments as a Reddit data export (it's a desktop app and everything happens locally, no info about your account or its history is sent to any server). Then, you can just scrub your comments. Scrubbing means to overwrite your desired comments with gibberish (the apps replaces each word with some random latin word). It does that to fool 3rd party archives who try to preserve removed comments. Also it saves Reddit karma. 2) Tinder-like swipe selection (maybe the thing I'm the most proud of) Inspired from an app I used to clean my phone gallery, I implemented a swipe left-right feature for choosing which comments to keep and which to scrub. This way the process was much faster and less boring. I just used my left/right keys on my keyboard and I'd sit maybe just a few seconds per comment. 3) Custom comment suffix or none at all. Left the option to set a custom suffix in case you want to leave a message like "this comment was mass scrubbed" or something like that. You can also fully disable if you want to. 4) Fair pricing This might be subjective, but I came with a price I consider fair. I ask for $15 (plus VAT) for a LIFETIME PLAN . This means you pay only once and can use the program as much as you want, while also enjoying future updates and bug fixes. Limitations Each it takes 5-10 seconds for each comment to be scrubbed. This is because of Reddit rate-limiting. I understand the process might take a lot if there are a lot of comments, so I recommend to scrub in bulks. The app is still in its alpha phase, meaning bugs and problems might occur. You can DM me if anything like that happens and will try to fix ASAP. The tool is called ReplyScrub . It's a desktop app that's available for Windows, MacOS and Linux. As I said earlier, it costs $15 + VAT for a LIFETIME license. I am genuinely curious about your opinion and feedback. Are there things I missed or could do better? (Also sorry if the post sounds like an ad, I wanted to showcas
