Original Summary
I'm the maker, a software engineer with history in dot-com startups, big tech (YouTube, Google, Facebook), a non-profit, and even a chocolate company. I've used to-do tools for 23 years now, and I've given up on 25 systems. Each time, I got into one, started using it, and as soon as I got deep with it, my list was too big to review, too painful to look at (what I kept missing or dropping), and I would hide from the list. All of the systems I'd tried, like GTD, require you to continually review, sort, and prioritize, and that was the part that was too much. 3 & Done was built to do away with all of the grunt work. You add in everything you need to do, along with any information about it. It accepts messy input (I mostly use voice, run-on sentences, three things at a time, but you can type too), breaks out the tasks, does some organization into projects (either detected, or ones you created), and then every day it reads the entire open list of tasks, and sends you an email with the three things it thinks are most important, and the reason why (e.g. it measures your deadlines, urgency, whether it's sat around for too long). If the choices are wrong, you can tell it why, and it will re-rank once a day, or you can choose yourself (add a fourth, cut down to two), and then it won't overwrite your choices. I use Anthropic's Claude models to power it, chosen because of the commercial terms which prevent training on any of the data. Your list data is entirely private, never accessed by me (I have customer support tools for when a customer asks us to look at something that went wrong, but they don't work unless a user has given us explicit consent). I wanted you to be able to try the real product, so https://3anddoneapp.com/try is wired to the real product code, you just have to give it something to work with. Nothing that you enter is saved by us, a copy is sent to Anthropic for the ranking, and the details are saved on your device so that you can import them if you sign up. The price is $99/year, or $9.99/month (plus any sales tax). There's a 14-day free trial, with no card to start, and nothing is charged unless you add a card before the trial ends. If you don't, it just stops, or you can cancel from settings. There is no native mobile app yet. The website can be installed as an app, and on Android you even get a dedicated voice input entry so you can launch it from a gesture. Native apps are in development for both Android and iOS, and will offer the choice between push notifications and email. The questions I have for you are: 1) were the three it picked the ones you would've picked? 2) does the email give you enough detail that you could focus on those tasks for the day? 3) is the price something you would consider, and if not, what would it have to do? I'll be reading and responding to comments for the rest of today. submitted by /u/dmayle [link] [comments]
