Original Summary
I've been thinking about something lately, and I'm curious how other companies handle this. Today, technology spending is spread across so many different services. AWS, Azure, Microsoft 365, SaaS subscriptions, AI APIs like OpenAI and Anthropic, and probably a dozen other tools nobody remembers signing up for. Each provider has its own dashboard, billing system, and way of reporting costs. But who's actually looking at the bigger picture? Does your finance team track everything? Is it the CTO or engineering team? Do you have someone dedicated to FinOps? Or does each department simply manage its own expenses? I'm building a platform called FinOps Intelligence to help companies consolidate and understand these costs, but I'm trying to better understand how this works in the real world before making assumptions about what companies actually need. I'm especially curious about three things: Who is responsible for monitoring technology spending at your company? When costs unexpectedly increase, how do you figure out what happened? What's the most frustrating part of managing these expenses today? And one more question: If you could change just one thing about how your company manages technology costs, what would it be? I'm not here to pitch anything. I'm genuinely interested in learning how different teams approach this problem, whether you're running a small startup or managing infrastructure at a larger company. Would love to hear your experiences, even if your answer is simply "we use spreadsheets and hope for the best." 😅 submitted by /u/LucasFass [link] [comments]
