Original Summary
We’re a software development company with around 40 people. In September, several of our developers ended up between client projects at the same time. We kept them on full pay for two weeks, even though there wasn’t enough billable work. After that, the plan was to move them to part-time until new projects came in, with priority to return to full-time once work picked up. The problem is that good developers don’t necessarily have to wait around. Some could probably find another contract in a couple of weeks. And losing people means we might not have the team ready when the next client comes along. Keeping everyone on full salaries indefinitely isn’t realistic either. So I’m curious how other business owners handle this. Do you guarantee some minimum pay during slow periods, or just pay for the hours available? And if you’ve been through something similar, did people actually stay, or did they start looking elsewhere anyway? submitted by /u/Sima228 [link] [comments]
