Original Summary

The idea for this project came out of pure frustration. When looking for daycares, I wanted to evaluate how good or bad the facilities actually were based on their public citations and records. The issue is that government websites have notoriously bad user experience. They do a terrible job of displaying the data in a way that actually makes sense to a normal person. So I built Hearth Records. Initially, I just built it for child care facilities so the necessary information was organized and displayed properly (way better than any state site would display them). But once I had the foundation built, I realized this same problem exists for almost all public safety data. So, I extended the project to include all publicly available data of a similar vein. I’d love to get your feedback on the UI, how the data is structured, or if there are other public datasets you think would be valuable to fold into this. FYI: All current features will stay free and accessible (without account creation) forever. At some point, I might introduce thinks to perhaps generate some revenue from it, but whatever that is would build on top of this. submitted by /u/ellow-mellow [link] [comments]
