I used RocketDock a ton back in the day and never really found a modern replacement I liked. So I built smabar. But I also thought about what an App Dock should actually be in 2026. For me, the answer was pretty simple, it should be easy to extend with whatever LLM or coding agent you already use, ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, Grok, whatever. That’s why smabar has full MCP support from the start. I can literally tell Codex or Claude Code: "Build me a plugin that does X" and then use it directly inside the App Dock. Want package tracking? Build a plugin. Want your API usage displayed? Build a plugin. Want some completely random widget only you need? Same thing. That’s the part that makes smabar more than just an App Dock for me. It almost turns into a personal productivity tool. Visually, it’s also fully customizable. Top, bottom, auto hide, fisheye effect, colors, width, height, fonts, basically the whole thing. And all of that can also be controlled through MCP, so your agent can change and design the bar for you as well. Notifications are built in too. Small example, the Todo plugin can create a reminder for 4 PM, then smabar shows a notification with "Done" and "Snooze" buttons. I even put this into my Claude rules file, so Claude can proactively ask me if I want to be reminded about something while I’m working. That’s just one small example. smabar itself is basically just the shell. It makes sure every plugin looks consistent, handles the communication and displays everything cleanly inside the dock. What the dock actually does is completely up to you. Completely free and source available for Linux, Windows and macOS beta.
