Original Summary

Hey all, You can already do this with git diff, and then read the whole thing in the terminal, which is not practical. Extension name is Flashback Diff This extension turns that into one right-click. Pick "Compare with Branch Origin" on any file and it opens in VS Code's normal side-by-side diff, against how the file looked when you created the branch. It works out which branch you came from by itself, and you can keep editing the file right there. It's useful for checking your own changes before committing or opening a PR. It's also great for code reviews: check out the branch, see exactly what changed in each file, and test or tweak things right there in the code. And it's really handy when an AI agent has been editing stuff over a bunch of prompts and you've lost track of what actually changed. It's free and open source, and it's my first one, so feedback is very welcome! https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=vhme.flashback-diff submitted by /u/europeankidstarving [link] [comments]
