Original Summary
I'm building a device called DashKit, which comes with an open-source firmware, and open-source companion apps for iOS and Android. The device plugs into a Tesla debug port, and emits data received from the CAN network over BLE to the companion app called DashPilot. DashPilot can be used to: Setup automations that run on DashKit (keep climate on, switching from chill to sport mode after certain pedal threshold, keeping wipers off when autopilot is active, battery preheat, etc.) Send controls commands to the car through DashKit Render instrument cluster / dashboard UI, so your phone can be used as a full-fledged Tesla dash DashPilot introduces the concept of "dash apps": it can load web or Rive apps, and the native part of the app sends the CarState to the dash app over the JS bridge in the web case, or in the Rive case, through the Rive app's ViewModel. This way the dashboard UI is decoupled from the main app, and can be extended very easily without touching the main app itself. The DashPilot app supports other data sources too, not just our DashKit device, such as comma (the self-driving device that runs openpilot), demo, or WebSocket. The demo data source is for convenience so you can quickly try out a new dash apps, without actually connecting to a car, or to any remote data source. It's pure a local simulation. What I like to see, is that the open-source nature already seems beneficial for maker: I see projects using DashKit, such as a custom Tesla HUD I saw on a german Tesla forum ( https://tff-forum.de/t/diy-projektvorstellung-lightweight-tesla-hud/442064 ), or someone wants to use it together with the Screenmate One for a custom "Knight Rider" like project for his car. Is the product concept understandable from our website? I have a feedback already that says that it's too text-heavy, and there are very few product photos. So it's hard to decipher what DashKit does. submitted by /u/wpmed92 [link] [comments]
