Original Summary
Hey everyone! I'm building a collectible tracking app focused on designer toys and blind-box figures, such as Pop Mart collections (Hirono, Skullpanda, Labubu, Crybaby, etc.). I'm planning to include collaboration figures from franchises like Harry Potter, The Monsters x other brands, and other licensed collaborations. However, AI tools keep warning me that including these figures could cause copyright or trademark issues, even if I'm only listing the figure names, series, release dates, and images for collection-tracking purposes. My app isn't intended to sell counterfeit products or claim ownership of any brands. The main idea is to let users track which figures they own, complete sets, and share their collections with others. Does anyone have experience building a similar app? Is it generally okay to include licensed collaboration figures in a collection database, or could this create legal problems? Would using official product images be an issue, and would it be safer to let users upload their own photos instead? I'd really appreciate any advice from people familiar with collectibles, app development, or intellectual property law! submitted by /u/Feeling_Fix_6059 [link] [comments]
