Original Summary
I've counted calories on and off for years. Every app I tried had the same problem: the logging itself was fine, but everything around it wasn't. Upsell screens, "today only −50%", macros locked behind premium, ads, an account before you can do anything, a coach nagging me to drink water. So I built Intake. The rule was simple: open, log, close. Nothing in between. What it refuses to do: No ads, no account, no login. You open it and start logging. Your data stays on your phone. Sync is optional, via your own iCloud or encrypted Google Drive. I don't run a server that holds your food diary. No streaks, points or challenges. It's a tool, not a game. One purchase ($9.99) unlocks everything. Macros, 30 nutrients, stats, PDF export, widgets and Apple Watch aren't spread across paywalls. What it does: a barcode scanner on a database of 3M+ products (Open Food Facts), routines for meals you eat often, water, weight, fasting with Live Activities, and Apple Health / Health Connect. One honest caveat: there's an optional AI feature (log a meal from a photo or a sentence). It runs on a separate subscription, or you can bring your own OpenAI / Anthropic / Gemini API key and pay nothing extra. I didn't want to force people into a subscription to cover my AI costs. It's at 4.8 ★ from 348 ratings on the App Store, which still surprises me for a solo project. It's on iPhone, Apple Watch and Android. I'd love feedback, especially from anyone who's quit a calorie app. What made you stop?
