Original Summary

I’m a vintage watch collector and enthusiast. I’ve often struggled to identify a watch or understand what distinguishes one reference or variant from another. Useful details can be scattered across books, dealer archives and forum discussions. So I built The Index: https://theindex.watch It’s a reference archive for watches produced up to 2000. You can browse brands and model families, search references, explore documented variants, and follow links to the underlying sources. There’s also a glossary and a reference-book library. The aim is to make the research easier for fellow collectors. It’s still a work in progress, and coverage varies: I’d rather show uncertainty than invent a missing detail. I’d love feedback on the search and browsing experience. If you collect watches, what’s the hardest part of identifying one, and what information would make a reference page genuinely useful to you? I’m the person behind the site, sharing it here as my side project. submitted by /u/jonastebbe [link] [comments]
